New Delhi: An important breakthrough has been achieved for Indian law enforcement agencies. Fugitive gangster Lakhwinder Kumar, a key associate associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, was extradited from the US on Saturday. Haryana Police took him into custody as soon as he reached Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The operation, coordinated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), marks the 36th such extradition this year, signaling a tough crackdown on cross-border criminal networks.

Extradition details: from red notice to Detention

Kumar is accused of being involved in extortion, arms smuggling and cross-border coordination for the Bishnoi gang. An Interpol Red Notice against him was issued on 26 October 2024 at the request of Haryana Police. With the joint efforts of India-US intelligence agencies, he was traced to America, after which the extradition process was completed. He reached India on 25 October.

The CBI statement said, "CBI had issued a red notice against Lakhwinder Kumar through Interpol. After being extradited from the US, he reached India on October 25, 2025, where Haryana Police took him into custody at Delhi Airport." Kumar had been carrying out criminal activities using international bases for years, which posed a threat to national security.

Gurugram police will take Sunil Sardana into custody today

In a related development, Gurugram Police will detain another prominent gangster, Sunil Sardana, at the same airport today (October 26). According to officials, Sardana was the mastermind behind the conspiracy to attack Bollywood singer Fazilpuria earlier this year. Sardana, extradited under Interpol protocols, has been described as a "textbook takedown" who coordinated attacks from abroad.

Comprehensive action: Global hunt intensifies, eye on Canada-UAE-Europe

Indian agencies are not stopping here. Bishnoi and several operatives linked to the network are under surveillance in Canada, UAE and parts of Europe. Several Interpol Red Corner Notices and bilateral extradition requests are in process. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and state police forces are sharing intelligence in real time.

The extradition of 36 gangsters this year has intensified the focus on fugitive criminals who fled the country following charges. From Canada (a hotspot of Khalistani-Bishnoi overlap) to the Middle East, the campaign has disrupted funding and operational chains.

Bishnoi Syndicate: Constant Threat

The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang is notorious for high-profile extortion, murders and celebrity threats, extending its reach globally. Kumar's role was in arms smuggling and coordination of hits that would blow up the logistics of the syndicate. The investigation into the individuals concerned, such as Goldy Brar, continues, and authorities aim to dismantle the entire network.

These extraditions signal an era of zero tolerance against organized crime. “There is no border safe haven now,” a senior official said. Stay tuned for updates on Sardana's detention and further global chase—what is your take on this growing India-US security partnership?
